This poncho is made with corn starch: 100% compostable and 100% biodegradable. As the name suggests, biodegradable and compostable corn starch products are made with corn starch. PLA (polactic acid) is typically made from the sugars in corn starch, cassava or sugar cane. It is biodegradable, carbon neutral and edible. To turn corn into plastic, the corn kernels are immersed in sulfur dioxide and hot water, where its components break down into starch, protein and fiber.
